In daily life, we all know that ordinary membrane switches boast excellent waterproof performance and also perform exceptionally well in oil resistance, dust prevention, and moisture protection, making them suitable for use in a wide range of environments. However, it’s worth exploring what exactly distinguishes waterproof, oil-resistant, and moisture-proof membrane switches from their counterparts lacking these features—and why they deliver such remarkable functionality.

What are the characteristics of waterproof membrane switches, and what materials can ensure their normal operation even in rainy conditions? A waterproof membrane switch is characterized by having a waterproof insulating layer coated on the surface of the conductive circuit, preventing direct contact between the conductive circuit and the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. Additionally, there are no openings within a 5 mm range between the upper and lower circuit planes, and the interlayer ventilation holes remain sealed from external exposure. This design effectively addresses the issue of reduced insulation resistance in the conductive circuit caused by moisture absorption from the adhesive layer, thereby enhancing the switch's performance against moisture infiltration.
Therefore, it possesses superior waterproof and moisture-proof features. Consequently, we can conclude that non-waterproof membrane switches fail to meet the aforementioned requirements and thus cannot provide effective waterproof functionality. On the other hand, high-performance waterproof membrane switches exhibit the following characteristics: they are crafted from advanced, highly functional waterproof materials, enabling products to operate reliably in environments with up to 95% humidity—eliminating any concerns even during rainfall—and ensuring dependable performance under harsh conditions as well.

1. Contactless flat membrane switch: Long service life but contactless;
2. Thin-film tactile type: Offers excellent touch sensitivity but has a relatively shorter lifespan.
3. Embossed frame with no tactile feedback: Features a visually appealing, three-dimensional surface but lacks tactile sensation.
4. Convex Frame Tactile Type: Offers aesthetically pleasing surface with strong three-dimensional and tactile effects.
5. Perforation of the touch-sensitive panel: If the design is incorrect, two simple phenomena may occur—damage to the panel and potential impairment of electrical functionality.
6. Metal Contact Type: Offers excellent tactile feedback. The metal contact not only serves as a touch point but also facilitates wiring connections. This type of metal contact is primarily used in membrane switches for rigid boards such as printed circuit boards, fully leveraging its three key features: conductivity, resilience, and superior tactile sensation. In flexible membrane switches, the primary function of the metal contact is to provide a distinct tactile response (i.e., "feel"), which is often sufficient without requiring additional functionality. However, a notable drawback is that there is typically a gap between the travel distance of the metal contact and the switch's actuation point, resulting in asynchronous movement between the contact and the switch mechanism.
In other words, when the shrapnel moves, the switch contacts may not act simultaneously. Moreover, in flexible circuit boards, the shrapnel often extends beyond the horizontal plane at the bottom. When excessive operational force is applied, the shrapnel tends to deform in the opposite direction and fails to return to its original position—this phenomenon is commonly referred to as "reversal-induced failure." In fact, in flexible circuit boards, the tactile feedback of the button can be reliably achieved through the curvature of the circuit layer.
